Many people think that “renewables” are ethical by their very nature, however they may not appreciate the effort that has been put into giving the whole market place structure so that individuals and businesses can have the confidence to invest in renewable products such as biomass boilers. This includes
- The Real Assurance code to protect consumers
- MCS installer accreditation to give companies a quality system to guide their installations
- MCS product accreditation to offer customers assurance on the product
Earlier in July Greg Barker made an announcement on the Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive and how biomass, solar thermal, and heat pump systems could benefit home owners in the coming years. He is very keen that the Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive is a big success and helps the UK meet its emissions targets for CO2. With the structures in place within the industry consumers will have a lot to gain.
The Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive for biomass is 12.2p per kWh for 7 years. For a 20kW boiler this would give a home £3206 per annum or £22443 in total. This is enough money to fund an installation and give the consumer a return for the “hassle” factor of investing in a new technology. In addition they will get to enjoy cheaper fuel prices than oil or LPG gas.
